A large entry sold freely, the quality generally showing a fair improvement on recent offerings. Extra choice ox made 40/- a 1001 b.: choice and prime, 32/- to 39/-; unfinished, 2a/- to 36/-; prime cow and heifer beef, 30/- to 37/-; unfinished, 20/- to 29/-. Extra heavy prime steers brought £1,4 to £l6; heavy, £l3 to £l5/5/-; medium, £ll/10/to H3/17/6; light, £lO to £l2/5/-; unfinished, £6 to £lO/10/-: extra heavy prime cows and heifers. £9 to £lO/12/6; heavy, £7 to £B/17/6; medium, £6 to £7 17/6; light, £5 to £6/15/-; unfinished. £3 to £4/15/-. Although a heavy supply ot sheep came forward, the quality was patchy. Bidding was particularly spirited, wethers showing an improvement in value of up to 2/- a head on the previous'sale. Ewes maintained late quotations. Extra heavy wethers made 30/- to 32/-; heavy. 29/to 30/9; medium, 27/- to 29/3; light, 24/- to 26/9; unfinished, IS/- to 23/6; extra heavy maiden ewes, 22/- to 24/-; heavy, 20/- to 21/6; medium, 16/- to 19/-': light. 15/9 to 16/6; unfinished, 3/- to 15/6. Prime quality lambs were plentiful and were quitted at firm late rates. Best grades realised 18/-_to 27/6; small and unfinished, 7/6 to 17/6. A full yarding of calves again met with a slack demand, only the primest quality showing any advance on the declining market. , Runners ranged from £2 to £8: heavy vealers, £4 to £4/16/-; medium, £3/1/- to £3/18/-; light, £2/7/to £3; srtialler, £l/12/- to £2; small and unfinished, £1 to £l/10/-; rough. 15/- to 25/-bobby, 5/- to 17/-. Fewer pigs were sold at the new schedule rates.' Baconers were inclined to improve, but porkers were slightly cheaper. Stores realised firm values.
