SHOPLIFTING AS TRADE
Two Women Sent To Prison By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, January 28. Described by the police as accomplished shoplifters, Clara Bridget Prendergast, an old age pensioner, and Ethel Barron, aged 42, a married woman, were sentenced by Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., to 14 days’ imprisonment and also admitted to probation for two years for a series of thefts from city stores over a lengthy period. The woman Prendergast said that she and Mrs. Barron had been stealing from shops for more than three years and Chief Detective Young added that her home was used as a clearing depot for sale by Mrs. Barron, who had formed a circle of regular customers.
