Meeting At Newlands There was a fair attendance at the January meeting of the Newlands Women’s Institute, over wlilch Mrs. Horridge presided, in, the absence of the president. The meeting was opened with the institute song and was followed by the aspirations. A welcome was extended to one and all. including the demonstrator, Mrs. Mclndoe. Business was attended to and dates were also proposed for coming events including the forthcoming annual birthday of the institute. Refreshments wqre served. The demonstrator chose for her subject the making of wood fibre flowers. Going To Russia Mrs. Charlotte Despard, sister of the late Earl French, and once a famous suffragette, is, at the age of 94, preparing for a trip to Russia. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, Director of School Hygiene, Health Department, ■Wellington, who has been paying an official visit to the health camps in Canterbury, is now visiting camps in Otago and Southland.
