PALMYRA LAME AGAIN
Out For Canterbury • Meeting DEFAULTER LOOKS WELL Dominion Special Service. Christchurch; January 27. After getting a thorough soaking from the rain thiit fell during the week-end, the Rieearton tracks are again iu greet order. The outside of the course proper was o()en this morning mid provided good galloping ground for horses going fast. Some of those who are to race at the Ctititerbury Jockey Club’s meeting next week Were sprinted, hut fjiere was not much In the way of serious trials. Having been raced recently, most of the horses will need only one or two smart gallops next week to get them ready. H. Nurse found it necessary to give Palmyra u Spell in the spring because of trouble in a stifle, but she was nil right after u short rest. VJnfortuniitely there has been a TeeurrenCe of the trouble, as she was lame after doing a good gallop over six furlongs this morning. A. rest, although it may extend to more than a fortnight, will prevent her from racing at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting next week, but she should be back to her best form for engagements later in the season. Wild Chase has not done nuy work since his return from Trentham. He has had a dose of physic and he Will be rested for a week to enable him to freshen up after his recent exertions. After that <1 'few sprints should see him in good condition for the James Hazlett Gold Cull, the only race for which he hns been nominated rit the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting. ' The two-year-old Defaulter looks well ami his racing at Trentham seems to have done him good. His next race will be the Middle Park Plate, which looks easy for him, as the opposition to this good and improving colt looks weak. After that he still has a few engagements for later in -the season, races in which he may meet some of the best of his age, but he will not be disregarded, as he has made great improvement lately. , At one stage there was a prospect of Rieearton having two Candidates for the Sydney Cup on Easter Monday, but Cerne Abbas had her entry cancelled when it was decided, to spell her. Willie Win was nominated for the race this week, and he will make the trip if all goes well with him. At present, however, he is doing only light exercise, but Mrs. J. Campbell hopes to have him running along in more serious work very soon. He will require to make an early start, after being on the easy list for about twf> months.
