IRELAND REVISITED
Monsignor J. F. MacManus
Returns
The enthusiasm witli which slumremoval was proceeding in England, and particularly in London, was commented on by Monsignor J. F. MacManus, Palmerston North, who returned to Wellington by the Rangitane yesterday after having been six months abroad. He said he saw no evidence ot unemployment, the rearmament programme apparently being the main reason. In one part of London, near Waltham Cross, about 5000 houses had been built in two years, and other cities seemed to be following the lead set by the metropolis. After an absence of 12 years, the monsignor revisited his home in County Leitrim, Ireland, spending most of his time there, but paying several visits to England. Pilgrimage to Lourdes. In September last, the monsignor formed one of the party of 3000 Irish pigrims who travelled to Lourdes.
