THERMAL VALLEY
Private Company Opens New Tourist Resort By Telegraph. —Press Association. Rotorua, December 16. The Minister of Lands (the Hoh. F. Langstone) yesterday paid a visit to the thermal valley of Orakei-Korako, which has recently been opened up by a private company as a tourist resort, and after inspecting the valley in company with representatives of a number of tourist enterprises and other interested visitors, officially declared the area open. Just prior to the ceremony the gathering saw a large geyser give a veryvigorous display, the wind at one stage scattering the Ministerial party when it blew steam and spray towards it. The Minister said he was most impressed by the attractions of the valley, which should become one of the major points of interest in the Rotorua district. Road access to the valley, which was previously very bad, had been greatly improved by the Public Works Department, and a punt worked on an endless cable has been placed on the Waikato ißiver enabling the river to be crossed quickly and safely to give access to the large silica terraces, several geysers, and the famous alum cave which lie on the opposite bank.
