Fourteen Men Sentenced In Supreme Court JAIL FOR INCENDIARIST Fourteen prisoners, who had pleaded guilty to varied offences, were sentenced by Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court at Wellington yesterday. Robert George Burns, brass polisher, aged 19, and Leslie James Wedderspoon, bootmaker,- aged 21, were sentenced to two years in a Borstal institution for breaking and entering and tlieft at Tokaanu.

Colin George Coneybeer, assistant storeman, aged 19 (Mr. G. Crossley, Palmerston North), was sentenced to three years’ Borstal detention for breaking and entering and tlieft at Palmerston North. Harold Colin Drager, labourer, aged 21 (Mr. Crossley), was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm at Woodville.

Matthew Bailey, shepherd and drover, aged 25 (Mr. Evan Parry), was admitted to probation for two years for unlawful carnal knowledge. Ronald Neville Earnshaw, labourer and cook, aged 26, was sentenced to two years’ hard labour for conversion of a motorcar at Wanganui and breach of probation. Harold Thompson, labourer, aged 18 (Mr. W. P. Coles), was admitted to probation for two years for assault causing actual bodily harm at Petone. A condition was that he pay the costs and totally abstain from liquor during that period. Reginald Mulholland, cook, aged 21, was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention for breaking and entering and theft (three charges), breaking and entering with intent to steal, theft, and starting to make moulds for counterfeiting. John O'Grady, labourer, aged 52 (Mr. R. Hardie Boys), was sentenced to fifteen months’ hard labour for arson. Bernard Edward Way, motor-driver, aged 19 (Mr. E. D. Blundell), was admitted to two years’ probation for breaking and entering and theft at Wellington.

Wi Mekerei Matenga, labourer, aged 38, was sentenced to two years’ hard labour for unlawful carnal knowledge at Porirua.

Nelson Ball, meat inspector,' aged 29 (Mr. F. W. Ongley), was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years for attempted unlawful carnal knowledge at Feilding. Robert James Turnbull, labourer, aged 27 (Mr. G. R. Powles), was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years for supplying drugs at Wairoa, intending them to be used for procuring abortion. Taurangi Taumanu, farm hand, aged 19, was sentenced to two years’ Borstal detention for unlawful carnal knowledge at Tikitiki (two charges).
