Interference Should Be Resisted
Dominion Special Service. Hastings, November 27. •’The Labour Government is, I think, the most self-satisfied Government in the whole world, and the most intolerant of criticism,” said Dr. K. E. Crompton, .speaking at a gathering of National Party supporters at Havelock North on .Saturday. ■‘lts latest proposal, to curtail the freedom of the Press, a freedom which has been maintained in British countries for an unbroken period of at least 200 years, is a dangerous one, and should be resisted to the utmost. One has to go back to the days of Bolingbroke and Walpole to find a Press censorship in Britain.” Dr. Crompton also referred to. the “one-sided” propaganda broadcast nightly .from the Government stations. This was a new menace, he said, and it emphasised the danger that would result from any curtailment of the ancient privileges of the Press.
