Responsibilities Of Parents
Sir, —The recent recommendation of the grand jury should be sufficient commentary on the present habit of giving sherry and cocktail' parties for young folks. What can be thought of parents who do such things? They can have little faith in their young people’s capacity for amusing and attracting each other, that they should think it necessary to stimulate this artificially, and introduce their sons and daughters to destructive and extravagant habits. One has always looked upon the mother’s task as that of protecting and strengthening her children till they are ready to fight their own battles, fortified by wholesome tastes and good principles. Is it fashion and the desire to seem up-to-date that makes cowards of those who Should be leaders? Little wonder that a young man is reported as having said recently tlmt “parents are idiots. —I am, etC ” EASTBOURNE.
