NEW FRENCH CONSUL
M. Edmond Meyer Arrives

To succeed M. Edouard Joubert, Auckland, as Consul for France in New Zealand, M. Edmond Meyer arrived from Sydney by the Awatea. M. Joubert is at present indisposed and will return to France when his health permits. M. Meyer assumed his consular duties immediately on arrival. For the past three years M. Meyer has been Vice-Consul to the French Consul-Gen-eral at Sydney. In 1924 he was connected with the Rhineland Commission, being in charge of the economic section for the district of Coblenz. Later he served as attache to the French Consulate at Stuttgart, Germany, after which ho was appointed to a similar position in Philadelphia. He was next engaged in doing special work at the French Embassy at Washington. In 1930 M. Meyer was appointed French Vice-Consul at Chicago, a position he held until 1933, when he was made Consul at Detroit. He returned to France in 1934 and after a lapse of several months he was appointed to the position at Sydney which he has just relinquished. M. Meyer will be joined by his wife in November.
