AUCKLAND PRODUCTION NEXT YEAR

Dominion Special Service.

Auckland, September 14.

The greatest dramatic producing task ever attempted in New Zealand faced Mr. G. D. Walton, Melbourne, when he arrived at Auckland by the Wanganella from Sydney. He is to produce “Credo,” a remarkable pageant play to be performed at the Western Springs stadium next year as part of the centenary celebrations being arranged by the Roman Catholic Cliurch. More than 1090 players will be required for the performance, and rehearsals are to be begun as soon as Mr. Walton has decided upon his cast and his plan of campaign.

Comparable with the passion plays produced at Oberammergau, “Credo” will exact a tremendous amount of preparation and rehearsal, and for this reason it has been decided to spend at least four months in getting the huge cast ready. Mr. Walton has had considerable experience of dramatic work, and, in addition to a varied producing career, has also written a number of successful radio and other plays. He is director of the Therry Society, which serves as the headquarters of the Australian Catholic Dramatic Movement. Mr. Walton will remain in Auckland for several weeks to get the production of “Credo” under way, and will then return to Australia, coming back again for the final rehearsals and production.
