ACCIDENTAL DEATH

Elderly Man Gassed in His Sleep Accidental poisoning by carbon monoxide through die wcape of gas in his room was the finding of the coroner, Mr. E. Gilbertson, J.P., at the inquest yesterday into the death of an elderly man. .John Henry Thomas Cullingeij who was found dead in his whare at 156 Tasman Street on July 23. Evidence by Albert Edward Colley, carpenter, was that he went with a companion to the rear of his residence to look for a gas leak. They entered deroom, where there was a strong smell of gas, and the sound of gas escaping. His companion turned the gas oven off, and they then saw deceased lying in A. C. Hobbs said the taps of the gas oven turned on very easily. The opinion that death occurred during sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning was given by Dr. W. F. Shiver, who examined the. body. Death had occurred within two hours of the examination.
