BRITISH FORCES IN PALESTINE
Major-General Wavell’s Appointment (British Official Wireless.) (Received July 29, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, July 28. The War Office announces ’MajorGeneral A. 11.I 1 . Wavell has been appointed General Officer Commanding the British Forces in Palestine and Transjordan in succession to Lieut.General J. C. Dill. Major-General Wavell is to take up his appointment about the end Xif August. Major-General Wavell has commanded the Second Division of the Aldershot Command since 1935. He was educated at Winchester and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In 1001 he was appointed to the Black Watch and in the South African War was decorated with a medal and four clasps. For bravery on the Indian frontier in 1908 he was lignin decorated. He served in France in the Great War, and in October. 1910, was appointed military attache with the Russian army in the Caucasus. He was appointed major-general in 1933. and from 1032 to 1033 was A.D.C. to the King.
