Insurgent Attack Halted ONLY SLIGHT SHELLING By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Madrid, July 28. The insurgent attack has been halted, and the troops on both sides are taking a breather. An official report from the front states that there is only slight shelling. A German, George Kohl, one of ths three airmen brought down on July 215, told the “Daily Telegraph’s” Madrid correspondent he was attracted tj Spain by the bait of more money and was taken to Seville in a Lufthansa commercial machine via Rome. A German officer instructed him to proceed to Salamanca, where there were eight Dornier Seventeens, a new machine which the authorities evidently wished to try out. under war conditions, the pilots being given objectives, such ns batteries, to bomb from a great height. It was officially announced in Madrid on July 26 that three Germans who landed by parachutes from a Dornier bomber were taken prisoner. The Germans said they had been ordered to Spain, flying over France, and that they belonged to a group which was testing ten Dornier machines under war conditions. BELLIGERENT RIGHTS An Official Denial (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, July 28. A suggestion published this morning that the British Government intends to grant belligerent rights when Parliament has adjourned for the summer recess is emphatically denied in London official quarters. The British plan visualises the conditional granting of belligerent rights only when arrangements-for the withdrawal of foreign nationals are working satisfactorily and have in fact made substantial progress. That is, and will remain, the British Government’s standpoint. CLAIM BY BRITAIN Damage to H.M.S. Hunter (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, July 28. The British Government proposes to submit a detailed claim for compensation to the Spanish insurgent authorities for the mining of H.M.S, Hunter. CANADIAN COMMUNISTS KILLED Toronto, July 28. Seven Canadians killed in Spain wore noted Communists. One of them, Tom Cicac, was convicted in 1932 for being connected with an unlawful organisation. The Canadian dead in Spain total 30. NON-INTERVENTION SUBCOMMITTEE ... London, July 28. It is announced that the Non-Inter-vention Sub-Committee is to meet on Friday, when the replies to the British questionnaire will be considered. A message from Paris states that France has accepted the non-interven-tion plan.
