SOCCER TEST MATCH

Rugby Union Grants Use of Athletic Park The Association football Test match between the visiting English team and New Zealand on June 26 will be played at Athletic Park. This has been made possible by the generosity of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union. When the application from the council of the New Zealand Football Association for the use of Athletic Park for the Test match came before the Wellington Rugby Union last night, the chairman of the management committee,. Mr. J. N. Millard, explained that Athletic Park would be the only ground on which the New Zealand Football Association could get a good gate, as the amount which could be charged at the Basin Reserve was limited by legislation. Major T. J. King moved that the application of the New Zealand Football Association for the use of Athletic Park for the Test match between England and New Zealand be granted. Though it would be inconvenient this year, owing to the visit of the South African Rugby team, he thought it would be a friendly gesture to the sister code to let them have the use of Athletic Park for the Test match. As Mr. Millard had pointed out, the amount which could be charged for admission to city council reserves was limited by legislation, and Athletic Park would hold a much bigger crowd than the Basin Reserve.

The motion was seconded by Mr. H. Murphy and carried unanimously.
