DISPERSING RIOTERS
Novel Armoured Car (Received April 19, 8.10 p.m.) London, April 19. The Paris correspondent of “The Times” says a novel armoured car is the outcome of a police search for a method of dispersing rioters. The machine can be controlled at either end, carries two drivers with a “gunner” amidships, and two quickfiring guns shooting celluloid pellets which are harmless but give a nasty knock at a range of 25 yards. It also has an electrically driven turbine projecting a high velocity sand jet, with which tear gas can be mixed if necessary. It is claimed that the sand jot has all the effect of a fire hose and has a longer range. The jet breaks up into a fine spray with considerable blinding and choking effect. Whether it is likely to endanger eyesight is uncertain.
