Germany and the Soviet London, April 18. The Berlin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that newspapers simultaneously publish editorials denying the prospect of a reorientation of German policy in the direction of a rapprochement with Russia. » They declare that Berlin and Moscow were never further apart, and that there is no likelihood of their approximation while Russia is a Communist nation. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reported on April 4 that the military chiefs of the German Fuehrer, Herr Hitler, had convinced him of the Soviet’s formidable military strength, in which he was influenced by staff reports on the efficiency of German, Russian, French and Italian equipment “tested” in Spain, and indicating that the German equipment, with the possible exception of anti-aircraft 'defence, was less good than was expected. Herr Hitler’s reconciliation with the noted war leader, General Ludendorff, was partly attributable to the Chancellor, under the army’s influence, realising the necessity for reaching a good understanding with the Russian army, the correspondent added. General Ludendorff had continually urged that Germany should not. attach exaggerated importance to Italy's arms in a European war, but, on the contrary, should seek a rapprochement with Russia.
