Trans-Atlantic Racing (From “The Dominion,” April 19, 1912.) “The Times” questions whether it is jn i time to call a halt in mammoth steamer construction, which makes for speed competitions and the selection of a track dangerous in certain seasons when a safer route exists. “The Times” appeals for a saner, sounder public opinion on the subject. German papers condemn the rage for speed, and describe the Titanic’s voyage as an attempt to break the Olvmpic’s record. German ships have been instructed to take the southern route to America. « * « At the meeting of the Wellington City Council last night, Cr. Fletcher moved: “That the small parcel of land adjoining the Wellington Naval boatsheds on the waterfront be utilised for the purpose of a fish market, and the city engineer be instructed to prepare plans and furnish an estimate for the erection of a suitable and inexpensive structure for the bettor distribution ol ! fish.” The motion was carried. [A small brick building, still standing, was erected and used for some years as a municipal fish shop.]
