Captain G. B. JI organ was informed and stopped the Raugatira off the Pipitea Wharf. He -signalled ashore for a launch to be sent out to take off his unwilling passenger, but a few moments later sent a further message not to send a launch as he was lowering one of the ship’s boats.
From the wharves the boat was seen against the side of the Rangatira, but was not seen cr.sosing rite water between the ship and the wharves. Shortly before 8.30 o’clock the Raugatira again got under way and soon disappeared from sight.
Meanwhile no one had seen the Rangatira’s boat tie up to any wharf, and it was not known whether she bad landed the man who had overstayed his time on board, or. if lie had been landed, just where he had come ashore. Later it was ascertained that the Rangatira’s boat had landed the man at Fryatt Quay.
