ANOTHER SECRETARY

Dealing' With Duke’s Mail "Dominion” Special Service.—By Air .Mall. London, April 3. The Duke of Windsor is asking for another secretary to be sent out from England to deal with the .100 daily “fan” letters, which are proving an embarrassment to him. More than 100,000 letters have been received since he went to Austria in December. For the first two weeks of the Duke’s stay his mail was between 5000 and 6000 letters a day. Thirty-live per cent, come from England and the Dominions, 20 per cent, from America, and the rest from other parts of the world.

These letters are not only from sympathisers. Many are political. It is stated that the Duke has been “disturbed, perplexed, and hurt” by certain parts of this correspondence. Envelopes are burned in the skittles alley and greenhouse at Enzesfeld, since it was discovered that a souvenir traffic in them existed. They were sold for 50/- each. One envelope postmarked Cannes was sold for £lO.
