TAX ON COSMETICS PROBABLE
British Budget Forecast London, April 18. The City does not expect any Budget surprises, although extraordinary precautions are being taken to avert leakages, including the deferring of the Budget Cabinet meeting until Monday. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, is to make his speech in the House of Commons on Tuesday. A tax on cosmetics and patent medicines is considered probable. The petrol tax may also be increased, or, as an alternative, a higher horse-power tax on ears may be imposed. A 5/- in the £1 income tax is considered to be inevitable.
