TARARUA RANGES
Tramping Club’s Views on National Park Divided opinions as to whether the Tararua Ranges should he declared a national park as a centennial memorial or should be left in their existing st,ate were expressed at an extraordinary general meeting of members of the Tararua Tramping Club held recently. Mr. H. F. von Haast presided over an attendance of about 150. After long discussion the following motion by Mr. R. H. Roberts was carried: “That this meeting opposes further substantial development in the Tararua mountain and " forest areas at present constituting the Tararua State Forest Reserve, and instructs the committee to act in accordance with this motion.” The meeting decided to appoint 'delegates to the forthcoming conference which will consider the question of the opening up or close preservation of the Tararuas. '
