The prompt action of a garage employee saved a light motor truck from being destroyed when it caught Are in the Willerton Engineering Company’s garage, Molesworth Street, at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Owned by Mr. D. G. Lawrie, of 42 Britannia Street, Petone, aud driven by his son, the truck was in the garage for a fill of petrol. The tank is under the seat in the cab, and when the cap was being replaced, the driver opened the door. He was smoking a cigarette, and in a trice the tank was on fire, but the employee who had filled the tank quickly seized a large cover from the ground and smothered the flames. There was no damage beyond a small patch burnt in the wooden tank cover. The annual meeting of the Wellington Licensing Committee is to be held at the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, at noou on Monday, June 7.
