NEW MOTOR-SHIP
Waiana on Maiden Voyage The Union Steam Ship Company has received cabled advice, that, its new motor-ship AA'aiana left Barry, AA’ales. on April 14 on her maiden voyage to New Zealand. Under the command of Captain A. H. Howie, the AA’aiana is coming out via the Spez Canal, Safaga and Colombo. She will load a cargo of phosphates at the Red Sea port of Safaga for Auckland. AA’ellington and Dunedin, and is due at Auckland about the middle of June. Au improved AVaimarino, the AVaiana was specially designed to replace the AA’ingatui in the Auckland-AVellington-Soutli Island service. Built by Alexander Stephen and Sons, Linthouso. the Waiana- is 320 feet in length, with a breadth of 48 feet. Her gross tonnage is approximately 3400 and her deadweight carrying capacity 3850 tons on a draught of 19ft. 6in. Her service speed is 12 knots.
