GOVERNMENT HOUSING
Two Blocks of Land Bought in Hastings Dominion Special Service. Hastings, April 16. In pursuance of the extension of the Government housing scheme to Hastings, two blocks of land, one in Willow Park Road and the other in Akina Street, have been purchased. The purchase prices of the areas selected have not yet been divulged. The title to the new road in one of the blocks, which has only recently been subdivided, was handed over to the Hastings Borough Council last evening. This block is portion of a natural ridge, with a good foundation of subsoil. It is very dry and well drained, centrally situated, and within easy distance not only of the High, Central and Convent Schools, but of the proposed site of the new intermediate school. In addition it is conveniently handy to the business centre of the town. Moreover, there are at least thirty or forty other sections available nearby, and this leaves room for further extension of the housing scheme should this step be deemed necessary. The second block purchased by the Government consists of approximately six acres with a frontage of approximately 300 feet on both Willow Park and Riverslea Roads. It appears to be the intention of the Government to construct a road through the centre of this block, providing at least 28 building sites with frontages on the proposed new street. This area is equally as well situated as the Akina Street area. It is within easy distance of the centre of the town and the quality of the sop may be assumed to be high as it was used by the previous owner as a fattening block for stock.
