SHOES, NOT BOOTS
Post Office Messengers English Post Office messenger boys are to wear shoes, instead of boots, after May 1. Shoes are considered smarter and more in harmony with the new lightweight uniform, with low-necked tunic and improved pouch, which is now being made. Black webbing gaiters (or leggings), similar to those used in the Royal Air Force are to be substituted for the leather variety. “We shall distribute 230 new pairs of shoes before the Coronation,” said a Post Office official. Each pair will have to last seven months.
