Commonwealth Loan By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright Melbourne, April 16, The Loan Council has accepted the offer of the Commonwealth Bank to underwrite immediately an internal loan for public works for the amount of £7,500,000. The rate of interest for the new loan will be £3/17/6 per cent, and the issue price £99/5/-. The currency of the new loan is for Hi years. The last loan underwritten by the Commonwealth Bank in December was for £7,500,000. It was issued at £97/10/-, ■bearing interest at 3J per cent., with a currency of 15 years. It was under-sub-scribed by £2,000,000, notwithstanding terms favourable to investors when comparison is made with New Zealand’s latest ventures into the local money market. An earlier Australian loan in June last was for £9.000,000 issued at £9B/10/-, also bearing interest at 3f per cent. SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES Good Prices at Wellington Sale Sheepskins showed a further rise at the sale held yesterday by the Wellington brokers, but hides, which made exceptional prices a fortnight ago, were easier. Sheepskins: .Fair-sized catalogues were offered, all sections of the trade being interested. Bidding was very spirited, prices generally being Id. higher, and at times l.Jd. Half.breds sold up to 17}d., line crossbreds to 18|d., medium crossbreds to 17}d., coar.se crossbreds to 16}d. The offering of salted skins was small, aud prices showed a corresponding rise. Hides: Some good parcels of abattoir and butchers’ hides were offered, exporters and tanners bidding freely. As compared with late rates (when extreme prices were paid), values’ for heavies, mediums and lights were Jd. to Id. lower. Kip receded Jd., while yearlings sold well up to late rates. Calf were in special demand, prices advancing Id. to }d. Weights l-51b„ and 6 81b„ sold to 18 1-Sl.; 9-101 b., 15|d. Tallow: A small offering. Prices showed little change.
