MUSIC AWARDS

Exhibitions and Medals The following awards of exhibitions and medals have been made to candidates who sat for examinations last year by the Associated Board of the Royal .Schools of Music, London. Two exhibitions, value £5O each per annum, tenable for two years: Alox Sylvester Lindsay, violin, tenable at the Royal College of Music, London; Nancy Estall, Christchurch, violoncello, tenable at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Licentiate Examinations. Two prizes of £25 each, awarded to candidates gaining the highest marks in each island: North Island, Colin R. Horsley, pianoforte; South Island, Mona Carmody, pianoforte. Two local exhibitions, value £l5 and £lO, to candidates under the age. of 18 years, showing exceptional musical promise: Grade VII, Campbell Davie, pianoforte; Grade VI, Eric Craig, violin. Gohl and Silver Medals.

Grade VIII gold modal, Peter D. Cooper, pianoforte. Grade VIII silver medal, Dorothy Downing, pianoforte. Grade VII gold medal, E. Shirley Craig, pianoforte. Grade VII silver medal, Winifred L. Anderson, violin; Una R. Murray, violin. Grade VI gold modal, Rona M. Peillon, violin.

Grade VI silver medal, Betty F. Whittington, pianoforte. Grade VIII prizes, £lO ami free entry for licentiate to the candidate gaining highest marks, Peter D. Cooper, pianoforte. Free entries for licentiate for the next highest marks: Dorothy Downing, pianoforte; Patience Robertson, pianoforte; Allan Trcgonning, pianoforte. An anonymous prize of £5 for special merit, Albert J. Lawson, violin, Grade VIII. The Violet Ward Prize, Christchurch, Jean Anderson, pianoforte.
