OBITUARY

Mr. D. D. Cameron One of the oldest settlers in Kaiwarra, Mr. Donald Douglas Cameron, died on Wednesday at the age of SO years. Mr Cameron, who was born at Waiwetu. in the Hutt Valley, was the eldest sou of the late Mr. Alexander Cameron, a pioneer settler of Wellington district who arrived in New Zealand in the ship Blenheim in 1840. Mr. Cameron received his education at Mowbray’s School (now the Thorndon Normal School) and at the Wellington Grammar School (now Wellington College), and began work iu the merchant’s business of Edward Pearce in Willis Street, where he remained until the amalgamation of that business with Levin and Co. He was then for about 38 years continuously employed with the Wellington Meat Export Company. Since his retirement a few years ago he has lived at his old home in Kaiwarra. In bis younger days he took a keen interest in military matters, and was for many years captain of the Kaiwarra Rifle Volunteers. He took an interest in education, and was for a period chairman of the Kaiwarra School Committee. Mr. Cameron married Miss Annie Storey, the eldest daughter of the late Mr. Lewis Storey, who survives him. He is survived also by live children, Miss Mary Cameron, Hawke’s Bay, and Messrs. John D. Cameron, Rouald Cameron, George Cameron and Percival Cameron, all of Wellington. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Cameron, Dunedin, Misses Jessie and Isabella Cameron, Kaiwarra, and one brother, Mr. John Cameron, Wellington. . Mrs. Charles Bennett The death occurred suddenly last Tuesday night of Mrs. Charles Bennett, at her residence, 45 Hamilton Road, Hataitai. Mrs. Bennett, who was in her 64th year, was a prominent member of tbe Hataitai Croquet Club, and, although she bad not been an active member for some time, she look a great interest in tbe game and in the club's activities and was almost a daily visitor at, the club. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband and two sons. Mr. R. C. Wright The death has occurred, a Napier Press Association message states, of Mr. Robert Coleburn Wright, a former member of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board and one of the founders of the Napier Thirty Thousand Club.
