AUTUMN BRINGS NEW BEAUTY PROBLEMS

Velvet Vogue Demands Special Complexion Care

With the coming of the velvet vogue of this autumn, with superb shades to which this fabric gives a new wealth of tone women are entering another phase of beauty. Soft pastel complexions, delicately tinted lips, ■ the faintest note of accentuation in eyes and eyebrows are beauty features that are enhanced by the velvet ensemble. There are fresh beauty problems to solve in attaining those, soft and velvety complexions that velvet best becomes, for, although so enchanting with a perfect skin, the richness of this fabric is inclined to show up any patchiness of complexion.

The new and unusual pastel colourings in which those fascinating velvets and velveteens are made, either in light or darker tones, demand a delicate harmony in all aspects of make-up. With a velvet gown or hat the complexion should always have a foundation cream before applying rhe finishing touches of natural colour tones and powder. To Match Gowns. These pastel-toned complexions need discrimination in the choice of cosmetics and discretion in their application. To-day all cosmetics are so cleverly graded in shades and tone that it is possible to adapt natural colourings to the chosen colour of the ensemble. The colour of the eyes, hair and skin can be linked up becomingly with any velvet hue worn by selecting the correct shade of rouge, lipstick, and powder. Sallow skins can be brightened. Too colourful complexions subdued.

Apart from the usual daily care of the skin with cleansing cream and an astringent when necessary, a day-time

or evening make-up requires a firm base cream. The cream should be chosen to tone with the tint of powder used, and applied thinly, giving a smooth, flawless surface. This is one of the secrets of a velvety complexion. A line skin needs an invisible powder of fine texture. Some skins are better when tlie powder lias a denser consistency. Natural Effect. Cream rouge is a useful beauty asset, for this can disguise tiny veins, while fulfilling its mission of beauty. There are complexion powders carefully toned to give the distinctive charm of a natural complexion. An indelible lipstick, impervious to climatic variations, and that will keep its delicate colouring throughout the day, is an autumn and winter beauty acquisition that every woman appreciates.

Colour ' tones for the pastel complexion are always clear, although achieved by subtly clever tints in powder and cosmetics. For blondes there are the cream and natural powders, rouge and lipstick that slightly deepen and enhance the tonal colour on cheeks and lips. Mid-blondes can usually choose mid-rose tones in rouge and lipstick with a slightly deeper tinted powder, still in the cream aud natural powder tint scale. For auburn-haired colouring there are the light rachel powders, and in rouge French rose tints. Or rachel powder with a hint of rose, and rouge aud lipstick with a tinge of orange. Clear, yet subtle, tones of rachel or peach cream tints are among the powder shades designed for brunettes, with clear rose rouge and a mid shade in rose lipstick. For the day-time this may have a slightly bluish tinge when a difficult colour is to be worn. A viola shade in lipstick and rouge is of this type. A light rosetta in rouge and lipstick is another good colour to remember for a pastel make-up. Correct Foundation. A velvet}- matt complexion with soft and delicate colouring is the type of beauty that is so lovely when velvet is worn. For this the assembling of cosmetics is all-important.
