TROTTING CIRCUIT

Form For Hawera Meeting Dominion Special Service. Hawera, March 2G. 'The country trotting circuit will be continued to-morrow with the opening of the Hawera Trotting Club's annual meeting. Fields for all events except one are large, and the team which competed at Wanganui has been reinforced by a strong Auckland contingent, while there are fresh hoives from the South Island, including the American stallion U. Scott, who should prove a big al traction for the club. The Hawera meeting is one of the most popular of the season, aud the club's decision to bring its classes into line with other circuit meetings has proved a wise ouc, for there is a more even spread of class over all races. The win-and-place system of betting will be iu operation. 12.0— AUROA HANDICAP, of £109; 3.43 class, tine mile and a half. Wluhisway ... ser Guide Peter .. scr Lady .Slipper . ser Worthy Cash Dowu ... ser Member scr Tangarou .... ser Mavis Logan . ser Tapanui Lady . scr Relax 36 Roman Chief .. ser Travisqtie .... 36 Little Acron .. ser The best recent form has been shown by Roman Chief and Travisque and there are possibilities in Winhisway, Lady Slipper (if she begins well). Cash Down and Guide Peter. The latter had his first race at Wanganui last week and should have derived benefit from the experience. Tangaroa’s seeond-day displays at Wanganui could not compare with the promise he showed on the first day. and if he has recovered from the lapse he should run prominently. It is difficult to overlook Travisque's 3.26 last Saturday. Favourite selections should be Travisque, Roman Chief and Guide Peter. 12.40— MATAPU HANDICAP, of £125; 3.47 class. One mile and a half. Glen Bingen .. scr Bingen Sun .. 24 Waingake .... ser Native Bird ... 36 Biworthy 12 Reception .... 60 Baby Triumph 12 Wrackless .... 72 Unworthy .... 12 Tan John 108 The new blood from Auckland will be in demand in this event, for the balance, who raced at Wanganui, are not a very solid lot. Glen Bingen misbehaved badly iu his two races last week after showing a lot of promise on the opening day at Wanganui, aud now he has better horses to meet, notably Baby Triumph and Bingen Sun. Biworthy should beat those in front of him. but will have to keep moving to beat Baby Triumph off level terms. Bingen Sun is handily placed on 24 yards and further back Wrackless should beat the others in the handicap division. Support is likely for Bingen Sun, Baby Triumph and Biworthy. 1.20— STRATFORD HANDICAP, of £125; 3.36 class. One mile and a half. Bismuth scr Effie Parrish .. 12 Handicapper . ser Dandy Locanda 12 Kewpie’s Crest scr Baron Grand .. 24 First Aid ser King Country . 24 Waving Corn . scr Juggler 36 Dusky Chum .. scr Silver Black .. 36 Roadster 12 Decoy Bird 36 This event hears a very open appearance, with fancies taking a wide range. If Bismuth improves on his effort at a mile at Wanganui he will keep the limit horses busy. Handicapper has shown encouraging form this season, and as he usually begins well he has something in his favour. Effie Parris, who fell at Wanganui, looks very likely from 12 yards, for she has a little class to stand to her, while Baron Grand is better placed here than he was in the looser classes at Wanganui. King Country’s form last week was below the best he is capable of. and Silver Black, if driven judiciously. should have a chance. The public may follow Handicapper, King Country and Baron Grand. 2.0— HAWERA TROTTING CUP, of £4OO ; 4.40 class. Two miles. Aide de Camp . scr Broughshane . scr Proletarian .. scr Red Flush ... 12 Kenworthy .. scr Ironside 24 Full Hand ... scr Kewpie’s King 24 Glorietra .... scr Winaway .... 24 U. Scott .... scr This is a very smart field for the class. Aide de Camp won the Liverpool Handicap at Wanganui without being really asked a question, and he is graduating into the better class in a fairly impressive fashion. However, he will be more thoroughly tested in this event by such horses as U. Scott. Red Flush, Ironside and Kewpie’s King. Full Hand and Glorietta had minor plaeings over the distance at Wanganui, but Aide de Camp should account for them at even terms. Proletarian may find the company Joo strong, and Kenworthy should be suited by shorter courses at this stage of his career, although he is a very solid and genuine customer. U. Scott has done his racing at distances below two miles, but his form this season, and his breeding, suggest that the cup course will be well within his compass. Broughshane does not appeal. Red Flush won the Wanganui Handicap narrowly, but very impressively, and is obviously better class than he has shown the public so far. Ironside is a sound stayer with placed form to his credit, and the other pair on 24 yards are both possibilities. It is a very open race, and good efforts will be anticipated from U. Scott, Red Flush and Aide de Camp. 2.45— EDTHAM HANDICAP, of £125; 3.39 class. One mile and a half. Ann Pointer .. scr Queenie Direct 12 Hearsay scr Mountain Ropata scr Flight 24 Savoldi scr Wrackless .... 24 The Smith bracket, Mountain Flight

and Anu Pointer, will touch a short price iu this event, and form points strongly to -Mountain Flight scoring her first success on the circuit. Hearsay was fourth at. Wanganui, and is the most likely of all horses competing at that fixture to show improvement at Hawera. Savoldi would only have to produce last week's form at two miles to have a chance, but the publie will not neglect Mountain Flight and Hearsay. 3.25— MANAIA HANDICAP, of £150; 5.2 class. Two miles. Glen Bingen ... scr Native Bird .. 24 Biworthy .... scr Dollar Maid .. 36 Waingake .... ser Reception .... 48 Baby Triumph scr Native Tree .. 60 Unworthy .... ser Tan John .... 120 Bingeu Sun ... 12 The longer distance of this trot improves the chances of the backmarker. Tan John, who ha.s been racing consistently since he competed without success at the Wellington autumn meeting. Native Tree, winner all the way of the t.wo-miles at Wanganui last Saturday, appears to have acquired solidity, but she may not have to-morrow’s race all to herself, as she did a week ago when her gait was not put to the test under pressure. Unless some outstanding form is shown in the earlier trot backers may prefer to rely on Native Tree. Tan John and Bingen Sun. 4.5— NORMANBY HANDICAP, of £125; 3.5 class. One mile and a quarter. Worthy Song .. scr Terraplane ... ser Kia Kiiha .... scr Isabella Pointer scr Ladv Slipper .. scr Worthy Accel scr Member ser Tangaroa scr King Aussie .. ser Connenora ... scr Pampas scr Tapanui Lady . scr Mavis Logan . scr Loval Bettv .. scr Transfer 36 There is not a great deal of form to work on in this event, but improvers from whom better efforts! are extrected include Worthy Song, Connenora and Loyal Betty. Winning form is usually the safe course in races of this description, and that means backing may be expected for Accel and Transfer.

PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, of £125; 2.59

class. One mile and a quarter. Ann Pointer .. scr Roadster 12 Tennessee's Orleigh Mills .. 1‘Child scr Effie Parrish .. 12 Bismuth scr Dandy Locanda 12 Handicapper . scr Great Chum .. 36 Kewpie’s Crest ser Native Cole ... Waving Corn . scr Silver Black .. 36 Northern Guy . scr Decoy Bird ... 30 Savoldi scr Electric Bell ... ob Results earlier in the day may affect the composition of the President’s Handicap field, in which the best prospects appear to lie Handicapper, Bismuth. Northern Guy. Savoldi, Effie Parrish. Native Cole, Silver Black and Electric Bell. So far the latter mare has not appeared on the circuit, but in her best form she would make short work of this lot. In her possible absence the best backed may be Handicapper, Savoldi and Effie Parrish.
