The strains of beautiful Y'horal singing floated between ship and wharf when the Awatea sailed from Auckland, the Waiata Maori Choir sailing on the first stage of their world tour, which will inelude America and England. A large gathering of Maori friends assembled on the wharf to bid them farewell, and also to say Godspeed to the Rev. A. J. Seamer, for so long superintendent of Methodist Maori missions, who was travelling with the choir on a health voyage to last about a year. The Waiata party boarded the Awatea bv the stern gangway, and the group immediately took up a position just above their singing attracting many to the vicinity. As the Awatea commenced to move away, the feelings of pride and affection of the relations and friends found relief in a stirring haka.
