Hutt Valley Body to Foster Sport

The promotion of amateur wrestling was the chief matter discussed at the first annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Amateur Wrestling Association. Particular stress was laid on the question of fostering the amateurs, and a strong sub-com-mittee was set up to further exploit, the jdea. Professional matches are also to be promoted during the season. It was reported that there was plenty of good material offering in the amateur ranks in the association’s district, which extends from Upper Hutt, to Eastbourne. In the light of that it. was expected enthusiasts would see some interesting work during the season, as it is the intention of the association to conduct amateur contests from time to time. Officers were elected as follows: —Patron, Sir Alexander Roberts; president, Mr. A. J. Gearing; vice-presidents, Dr. B. J. Dudley, Messrs. J. Purvis, L. Stewart, and J. M. Carson; management committee, Messrs. A. Fisher, J. K. Bonner, W. 11. Smith, Skinner, W. J. Morrison, P. Player, W. Gregory, E. G. Shearer, F. Hadwin, W. J. Elliott, and It. Gilkison ; hon. secretary, and treasurer, Mr. C. It. Murray; lion, solicitor, Mr. IL Gilkison; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Smith. EASTER CRICKET MATCH A match between teams representing the Hutt Valley Cricket Association and the Hutt District Club has been arranged for Easter Monday. Tlie game will be played on the Lower Hutt recreation ground. The Hutt Valley association will be represented by the following players chosen by tlie association’s selectors, Messrs. .1. E.
