KING AND COMMONS
Civil List Provision
SPEAKER READS MESSAGE
(British Official Wireless.) z Rugby, March 16. A message from the King brought to the House of Commons by the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, and read by the Speaker. Captain E. A. Fitzßoy, stated that the demise of the Crown mtwle it necessary that renewed provision be made to the Civil List, and added :
“His Majesty places unreservedly at the disposal of the House of Commons those hereditary revenues which were so placed by his predecessor, and has commanded that the papers necessary for consideration of the subject shall be laid before the House. His Majesty desires that provision shall be made for Her Majesty Ihe Queen and for His Majesty's children other than her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth, corresponding to the provision which the House of Commons has been willing to make in like circumstances in the past.
“His Majesty also desires that suitable provision shall be made for her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth and for his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester. It is. however. His Majesty’s intention, so long as lite revenues of the Duchy of Cornwall are vested in himself, to make that provision for her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth and his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, and in so far as those revenues .are sufficient to provide for His Majesty's Civil List, and in the event of the birth of tt Duke of Cornwall. to assent to the arrangements similar to those which were assented to by his predecessor. “His Majesty recommends consideration of these several matters to ills faithful House of Commons and relies on their attachment to his person and family to adopt such measures as may be suitable for the occasion.”
