TRAINING COLLEGES AT CRICKET

Wellington v. Auckland MATCH ENDS IN DRAW The annual cricket match between) elevens representing the Wellington and Auckland Teachers’ Training Colleges was concluded at Kelburn Park yesterday and resulted in a drawn game. On Monday Wellington scored 205, and Auckland, at call of time, had 61 runs on for the loss of six wickets. Resuming in fine weather yesterday, Wilson and D. Kirkby, who bowled unchanged throughout the innings, quickly had the Aucklanders all out for 89. Wilson secured four wickets for 21 and Kirkby five for 25. E. Grant (20), E. Casey (12), and G. Rogers (11) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Auckland followed on at 11.30 and made a much better showing. ,Casey_ and Matthews put on 59 for the first wicket before the latter fell l.b.w. to Harding with his score at 23. Thereafter Flavell (the Auckland captain), McDonald, Hamilton and Delamore all stayed for a time with Casey, who continued to play very soundly. Casey is a stylish lefthander and was particularly strong on the on side, frequently swinging short-piteli-ed balls to the long-leg boundary. He was heartily applauded on reaching his century at 4.50. In all he hit two sixes and thirteen fours in his exhilarating display and did not give a chance until he was well caught at extra long-on by Roes off Turnbull. Stumps were drawn at 5 p.m. to enable the visitors to leave for home by the Night Limited. The Auckland score then stood at 239 for eight wickets, so honours were easy. The Aucklanders played much more confidently against Wilson’s fast deliveries than they had done in the first innings. Wilson takes a long run and he dragged the heels off three pairs of boots yesterday. Following are the scores :— WELLINGTON. First Innings 205 AUCKLAND. —First Innings. C. W. Flavell, b. Wilson 1 It.
