Wellington Centre Meets TEAM FOR EMPIRE GAMES The executive of the Wellington Bowling Centre uiet last night, the president, Mr. W. Gilbert, presiding. An appeal was received from the New Zealand Olympic Association for support toward a national presentation to Mr| J. E. Lovelock. The president said the appeal was for a deserving object. The feeling was that the matter was one for individual bowlers rather\ than clubs or centres. The centre had forwarded copies of the appeal to the clubs, which could commend it to their members. The meeting approved the proposal to abandon the games for the Barnett Tiki played between the Christchurch and Wellington centres. It was stated that tlie Wellington centre would welcome a visit at any time from teams of Christchurch bowlers. A circular-tvas received from the New Zealand Botvling Association asking the centre for its views concerning a proposal to strike a levy to provide a fund for the purpose of sending a fully representative team of seven New Zealand bowlers to compete in the British Empire Games, to be held in Sydney iu February. 1938. The New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association Avould provide a portion of the funds to meet the expenses of all athletes and boAvlers taking part in the games, and by making provision for striking a levy of threepence a member over a period of two years sufficient funds would be obtained to pay the expenses of a team of seven players. The president said it was a glorious opportunity for the very best New Zealand botvling team to be sent. A resolution was carried unanimously supporting the proposal of the Bowling Council to strike a levy to provide a fund to send a team to the games. The Lower Hutt club was granted permission to hold one-dtiy tournaments on December 14 and January 1. The Upper Hutt club was authorised to hold two one-day tournaments, one on January 1 and the other on January 2.
