Wellington Market Quiet

Business opened'quietly on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday/ Kecorded .dealings were-not very numerous, but a definitely stronger tendency was noticeable in several issues. Government, loans were dull and rather weak, ’dealings covering three small parcels. . Bank of New Zealands were a little easier, business being at 41/10. Breweries were firm. Staples again selling at 37/6. New Zealands were wanted at 53/3, but sellers held for 54/6. Tooths eased to 52/-, sellers 54/3. _ The demand for New Zealand industrials was slack. G. J. Coles continued to advance, business being done at up to 8(1/-, a gain of 3/-. The atmosphere calmed somewhat nn Thursday, lower prices resulting in a moderate rally, but the market, while convinced of the essential order of British constitutional forms, remained apprehensive of foreign and Imperial repercussions. Moreover, the position in Spain is still threatening. Business showed little increase on Friday, despite the better tendency. Chief operators were bargain-hunters and bears.
