ST. MARY’S HOMES
Annual Sale of Work Although the weather was discouraging, there was a large and enthusiastic attendance of friends of St. Mary’s Homes at the annual sale of work, which was held at the Girls’ Home. 29 Messines Road, Karori, yesterday afternoon. The sale was opened by Mrs. H. St. Barbe Holland, who congratulated the matron and the girls on the very attractive and creditable display of articles at the various stalls. Everything at the sale had been made by the girls, who arrange this sale every year without any outside help whatever. Most attractive articles which would make ideal Christmas gifts were on sale at the fancy needlework stall, and with this idea.in view, the purchasers were many and eager. Another stall was well-stocked with cakes and tasty savouries and useful things for the pantry, and there was a stall at which beautiful Christmas cakes, made in the Home kitchen, were sold. Each year many people procure their cakes and puddings for the Christmas season from St. Mary’s Home, which has an excellent reputation for them, and the demand for orders is always considerable. There was also a stall for homemade sweets, and a delicious tea was served during the afternoon.
