By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, November 18. Beef cattle were yarded in much smaller numbers at IVestlieli. to-day, and values were fully firm at up to 36/- per 1001 b., which figure has ruled for 12 weeks. The ox quality was all that could be desired, but apart from one fairly special entry of cows and heifers, the quality here was mainly inferior. Extra choice ox sold to 36/- a 1001 b.; choice and prime, 32/- to 36/-; secondary and plain, 28/to 31/-; prime cow and heifer, 30/- to 35/-; ordinary, 21/- to 29/-; extra heavy steers made £l4 to £l6/2/6; heavy, £l2 ]O/- to £l4/17/6; lighter, £ll/10/- to £l3/2/6; light, £9/10/- to £ll/15/-; small and unfinished, £7 to £9/5/-; extra heavy cows and heifers, £9 to £ll 10/-; heavy, £7/10/- to £9/10/-; lighter, £4/10/- to £7/7/6; other killable cows, £2 to £4/10/-. More wethers were penned than tor some weeks past, and values tended to ease. Ewes were comparatively scarce and realised firm rates. Spring lambs were easier in consequence of a reduction in the export schedule rates and ranged from IS/6 to 28/6. Fat pigs were in full supply, and while baconers maintained last week’s reduced prices porkers made a slight recovery. Choppers, £1 to £3; heavy baconers, £3 10/- to £3/13/-; medium, £3/4/- to £3 8/-; light, £2/17/- to £3/2/-; heavy porkors £2/12/- to £2/16/-; medium. £2 ”/- to £2/10/-; light, £l/18/- to £2/3/-; small and unfinished, £l/8/- to £l/.la/-. Values at Johnsonville Average yardings were forward at the Johnsonville stock sale held yesterday bj’ Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams Ltd. The bullocks comprised chiefly prime heavyweight cattle, with a few peiw of prime mediumweights. Heavy bullocks met a keen sale, with prices showing a slightly easing tendency. Medium and lightweight cattle sold readily at late rates. The quality of the cows and heifers was not up to the standard yarded last week. Only prime cattle were sought after, these selling well at: previous quotations, while lightweights and unfinished station cows were easier by 10/- to 15/- per head. There was a larger yarding than usual of cows ex dairy, which sold well at late rates. Owing to the short yarding of prime quality vealers prices were firmer by 5/- per head. Small calves also met a ready sale. The wethers yarded comprised a few pens of heavyweight sheep, the balance of the yarding consisting of light to medium-weight sorts. All classes met a ready sale, prices being on a par with last week. Very few extra heavy ewes were yarded. These met with keen competition, prices showing no alteration. Lightweight and unfinished ewes showed an appreciable drop of 1/- a head. The yarding of lambs was of indifferent quality, only a few pens of extra good quality coming forward. These sold at prices well above those ruling for export. Lightweight lambs were hard to quit even at reduced limits.
