Protecting - Local Bodies
A remit designed to protect local bodies in regard to riparian rights is to be submitted to the next municipal conference by the Wellington City Council. The text of the remit is as follows: — ... “That in order to do justice to riparian owners, particularly farmeis affected by the impounding of water for water supply, and preserve their rights to water, and, in order to protect local authorities constructing' watrewoi'ks from having to pay unnecessarily large sums for compensation, provision be made to enable local authorities t.o impound water without paying compensation to riparian owners under license to be granted by a competent tribunal.”
