CITY IMPROVEMENT
Widening Roadway In Manners Street Part of the roadway in Manners Street, Wellington, at. its narrowest point, is at present being widened. The section of the road being dealt with is between Farlsh and Lombard Streets, and right opposite Herbert Street. For some time it has been realised that the northern side of Manners Street at that point has more than the normal breadth of footpath—half as wide again as any footpath in Willis Street, for example—and advantage has been taken of certain work that has been going on in that vicinity to round off the Farish Street corner, and set the footpath back from nothing to a width of 2ft. lOin. in the centre of tile bend of the road, and then tapering to a 14in. strip at Lombard Street. The addition of nearly three feet to the roadway right on the bend of this busy street should be extremely valuable to traffic, and the reduced footpath should inconvenience no one.
