SOCIAL EVENING

Local Bodies Officers’ Guild Attended by many members and their wives and friends, the social gathering held by the executive of the Wellington Centre, Local Bodies Officers’ Guild, at the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night was a most enjoyable affair. The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, presided. The evening commenced with a lantern lecture by Mr. E. P. Norman on “The Life of the Duke of Wellington,” which proved both informative and entertaining. Miss Una Weller contributed elocutionary items, Mr. Norman Grenfell and Miss Gladys Webb gave solos, and Highland dancing by the Misses MacKay and Miss O’Connor, accompanied by Piper Barclay, was greatly enjoyed. The hall had been transformed for the occasion with flags of many nationalities, which draped the walls and galleries and decorated the stage, from which an excellent orchestra provided music. Supper was followed by dancing, so concluding a very happy evening.
