ANNUAL “GIFT TEA”

Levin Memorial Home The annual gift tea held at the Levin Memorial Home for Girls yesterday was a most successful and enjoyable affair. A Jarge number of friends and visitors were received by members of the committee, and a happy time was spent inspecting the home, Miss Richardson and her assistants receiving much well-earned praise. Miss Archibald welcomed Lady Elliott, who opened the afternoon, and .spoke in eulogistic terms of Lady Elliott’s interest in many activities connected with social welfare. Miss Archibald made special reference to the death of Mrs. Albert Stace, an . energetic and valued member of the committee, who had been responsible for the older girls joining the cadet branch of home-nursing and first aid of the St John Ambulance. The certificates gained by the cadets were presented by Lady Elliott, and she was given a bouquet by one of the younger children. In declaring the afternoon open, Lady Elliott said she felt'greatly hondured at being asked to perform the ceremony, for she had always had the greatest admiration for the work done by the home. She had known the members of the committee for many years, and had the greatest regard for their work on behalf of the girls. Lady EUiott referred in eulogistic terms to the late Mr. W. H. Levin, in whose memory the home was founded. Afternoon tea was served by Miss Barry and Miss Young, assisted by Mrs. McArthur, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Hazlewood, Mrs. Shepherd, and Misses McLeod, McDougall, Johnsen, Neave and Gillespie. / The cake stall attracted many buyers, as did a stall: for spring flowers and plants. Those in charge were: Mesdames Luke, Archibald, Longmore. Edwards, Lyon, Gillespie, Levin, Holdsworth, Mayer, and Miss Archer., Mrs. Vogel, Mrs. J. Vogel and Miss McDonald were in charge of the sweet stall, with Mrs. Pool, Mrs. Willoughby and Miss Morrah in charge of the work stall, which .contained many articles made by the children and friends. Mrs. Gillingham, Mrs. Du Pont, Miss Greenwood and Miss gladden showed the visitors over the home. During the afternoon it was stated that it had been decided to use the legacy left by Mrs. Stace for a sun porch for the home. Oompetitions were won by Mrs. Luke, Miss Richardson and Mrs. Bayly. As a result of the afternoon the home will benefit considerably.
