SACK MANUFACTURE
Minister Investigating By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, September 16. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, is investigating the possibilities of establishing factories for the manufacture of sacks under a cheap, quick process invented by an Ashburton engineer. It is claimed that hemp is made as soft as wool and silk, tougher than jute, tasteless, damp-resisting, and can be spun and knitted without fluff. Textile authorities have been impressed with the tests.
