Football Sports Club’s Meeting

Prospects of a greater membership during the forthcoming season were referred to at the annual meeting of the Athletic Football Sports Club last night Five new members were elected, and it was stated in the report that as a result of an interview with the Athletic Rugby Club it was hoped that several members of thnt club would join this yenr. The president. Mr. A. W. O. Travers, said that if they put their shoulders to the wheel they should be able to increase the membership of the club. In the peak year there had been 63 members, bur last year they had slumped to 20. That had been common, however, to many clubs throughout New Zealand. With the 40-hour week now in existence there was mor® leisure, and amateur athletics afforded a splendid opportunity of spending a certain amount of'that leisure in gnod healthy recreation. He knew of nothing better than good, clean amateur snort. Reference was made to the fact thnt this year the club would be using the new Hatnitni Park. Tt was stated in the report that under extraordinary circumstances the club had come out fairly well, nnd it was anticifrnted thnt with the hearty co-operation of officers and members the forthcoming yenr will be a most fruitful one. The club, being one of long standing, should apnenl to those young neople who anticipated taking tip athletics. It.was decided to forward a letter of thanks nnd appreciation to Miss P. Resnick. the athletic club and Wellington Harriers Club candidate in the Wellington centre queen carnival.
