Hutt Horticultural Show MR. H. J. POOLE’S CHAMPION Fine quality narcissi in their hundreds, and in their immense variety, bedecked the Horticultural Hall yesterday, . when the annual spring show of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society was opened. The show will be continued to-day. Opening the show, the Bishop of Wellington, the lit. Rev. H. St. B. Holland, described his rectory garden in England, with trees 300 years old, and said he had no admiration for the conventionally planned garden. What had amazed him out here was finding various flowers in bloom at the same time, in combinations that could not possibly happen in England, The champion narcissi was a Leedsii "Peerless,” grown and exhibited by Air. H. J. Poole. This bloom was also adjudged the best lion-trumpet. The best trumpet in the show was “Tain." entered by Mr. A. Gibson. Mr. Poole also won the prize for most points in the narcissi section. The official party were the president, Uapt. Wybrants Olphert, and Airs. 01phert; Bishop Holland, the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Mr.. Mrs. Olphert was in a smart navy blue tailored suit, with touches of white, and navy blue hat trimmed with a white rose. After the ceremony litt’e Barbara Redpath presented Bishop Holland with a posy in rose shades for MrsHolland, who was unable to be present. Airs. J. D. King and her helpers were in charge of the afternoon tea arrange ments, and Airs. Bock was at the door. A stall of clut flowers was in charge of Airs. Alexander, Aire. Hendry,.
