Guards Charge Crowd at z Lille WAVE OF SMALL STRIKES (Received September 16. 11.55 p.m.) Lille, September 16. Mobile guards were obliged to charge crowds several times last night and 30 were injured during demonstrations connected with the textile strike. ' ~ Thousands assembled outside a hall where the French Social Party, an offshoot of the banned Croix de Feu, was meeting and attempted to set Are to it.
Already a wave of smaller strikes is spreading through France. Colonel De La Rocque, leader of the Croix de Feu, has seized the opportunity of launching a new campaign against the Government, displaying posters throughout France declaring that an increase in prices has already outdistanced the advance in wages. The Government to-day received representatives of the employers and workers. M. Chautemps is expected to be appointed arbitrator. The Government believes both sides will accept his decision.
