TWO ARABS TO DIE
First Death Sentences Since Strike Began (Received September 16, 8.15 p.m.) Jerusalem, September 15. Two Arabs were sentenced to death fo r firing at British troops at Nablus. This is the first sentence of its kind since the strike began. A goods train of 20 wagons, bound from Haifa, was derailed on a steep gradient. The guard and look-out man were severely injured. The military escort fired at Arabs concealed in heavy cactus, wounding one. A pumping station on the Jericho Road was blown up, becoming a mass of flame. ARRESTS IN SYRIA ' Gun-running to Palestine Suspected Beirut, September 15. Gendarmes surrounded several villages in the Shouf district,- which is believed to harbour armed bands. While transferring several prisoners the gendarmes were fired on from a hill, and further arrests followed. Twelve rifles and a quantity of ammunition which it is believed were being smuggled to Palestine were confiscated.
