COAL MINES DISPUTE
Conference in Wellington • A conference between owners’ and miners’ representatives to discuss recent troubles in the coal-mining industry commenced in Wellington yesterday and adjourned until to-day. A stoppage occurred at Huntly on Monday, when the truckers at the Rotowaro mine refused to work threequarters of a shift. Their decision was made when they received information that the miners intended to hold a stopwork meeting in the afternoon. It is understood this meeting .was to be held to discuss the rates of pay for work in a certain section of the mine which the men contend is a pillar-working, area, and therefore particularly dangerous.
