. Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, September 15. An elderly woman who was reported missing from her hpme- at Aramoho this morning was rescued from the Wanganui River by two passers, Mr. T. R. Lambess, who first saw her. and Mr. E. McGrail. The free ambulance was summoned and took her to the public hospital. This afternoon she was reported to be quite comfortable. Appreciation of Short Week. A motion was unanimously passed by a large meeting of members of the “Wanganui branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants from Bonny. Glen, Turakina, Fordell. Wangaehu, and Wanganui congratulating the Government on introducing the 40-hour week into, the railway service. As a mark of appreciation the branch expressed its complete confidence in the Government. Death of Airman’s Wife. Word has been received in “Wanganui ' of the death of the wife of Captain F. C. Allen, of the Imperial Airways. Captain Allen is a son of Mr. T. R. Allen, district public trustee at Wanganui, and was educated here. He is now on his way to New Zealand. Health Camp Campaign. , Good progress is being made ,in the Wanganui health camp committee’s campaign for funds. • While «an appeal has not yet been officially launched, various donations have been received, and the fund stands at over £200.. Miss Merle Spurdie has been selected to contest the queen carnival in the town interests. Mrs. A. H. McLean is the country queen candidate. A meeting is to be held next week to arrange the nomination of a sports queen. It is hoped that £lOOO will be raised by the carnival so that the camp may be equipped and opened after Christmas. CHANGED DATE OF COUNCIL MEETING Levin, September 15. , 1 Owing to the recent change in the weekly half-holiday the JHorowhenua County Council has decided to hold its monthly meetings on the second Friday in the month instead of the second Saturday.
